Beyond Revenge on NPR's "Speaking of Faith" this Weekend (November 6-12, 2008)

Quick note to let everybody know that this week’s edition of the NPR show “Speaking of Faith” is an interview with yours truly about the science behind humans’ tendency for revenge and our ability to forgive.  The interviewer (and editor) of the program were very generous, and they gave me lots of time to talk at length about Beyond Revenge and some of the lessons science has shown us for making the world a less vengeful, more forgiving place.

The show plays in 200 U.S. markets, and you can find out when and where it’s playing here:

You can also just listen to it on line here:

Enjoy!

I was listening to this and thinking to myself, "wow, this guy's doing research similar to Mike." But it didn't sound like you. I've been told that my "teaching voice" is different than my regular voice. Maybe it's the same for you. Napp Nazworth (URL) - 22-11-’08 17:09

Could be that my voice has changed a bit in the 20 years since we were together! Perhaps all of the music playing in smoky bars since then. . .

Here\\\'s something else that always surprises me as a listener to myself. When I was younger (even before I knew you, which is to say, a long time ago), I did a bit of acting for some local cablevision productions in Jacksonville, FL. I won\\\'t get an Emmy for any of it--believe me.

Anyway, when I\\\'d watch them later on TV, I always marveled at how tinny my voice sounded in comparison to the wonderfully masculine and resonant voice that I just knew I had. I believe the gap between the voice you hear in your head and the voice you hear on recordings occurs because the bones in your skull, and the flesh in your head, create a warm resonance that doesn\\\'t happen when the sound comes from a tiny little speaker in a TV, or a radio, and then goes right into the inner ear.
